HISTORY
More than 2300 priests and brothers in the
world use the letters MSC (Missionarii Sacratissimi Cordis) after their
name. They belong to the Society Of Missionaries of the Sacred Heart founded
in France in 1854 by Father Jules Chevalier http://www.misacor.org
Fr. Chevalier and his close friends were
deeply moved by the evils that afflicted the people of their time. In
contemplating the Heart of Christ, in whom is revealed the compassionate
love of God, they discovered there the remedy for the ills of the world.
The Missionaries soon became international
and in 1881 took on foreign mission work as one of their main activities.
They are now found in more than 50 countries in all continents and in
five African countries : South Africa, Namibia, Zaire, Cameroon and Senegal.
Last year they celebrated their Golden Jubilee of their arrival in South
Africa.
They are Missionaries of God’s love who consecrate
their lives to Christ and to people in evangelical poverty, chastity and
obedience.
During the past 50 years they have shown
a generous heart for Africa:
- by developing over 200 faith communities;
- by providing medical care and maternity clinics in
poor areas;
- by being involved in primary, secondary and tertiary
education.
Doing community action is rewarding. It develops leadership
skills that enriches the dignity of the person, supports family life and
brings about the transformation of society.
